About Us

Our clinic’s philosophy has been born from a belief that modern marketing has gone too far and lost the actual best interests of our pets.

Rehabilitation Therapy - Southern Animal Health

Who we are

As a result, our group of like minded veterinarians established Southern Animal Health in order to return to a more balanced and sensible approach to both preventative medicine, and also the diagnosis and treatment of an unwell pet.

The other concern that has evolved of recent times are the exorbitant costs of after-hours emergency centres and specialist centres. Many “general practices” continue to reduce their hours and services, instead referring to these centres.

Our clinic offers a 7 day a week service, along with highly skilled veterinarians whose main areas of interest are advanced medicine and surgery. This enables our patients to remain within the clinic they come to know and trust.

We have a genuine concern about the ever increasing costs of general practice itself. With “modern marketing” draining many pet owners finances, often pet owners cannot afford insurance, and hence make “financial based” decisions when their pet actually suffers serious injury or illness. As such, our staff have encouraged all our clients to “give up” the excessive products recommended in routine pet health that we are unconvinced are beneficial, and instead use these savings to do something that really will help your pet one day – insure them!

We have shown thousands of pet owners how to get their pets insured, often just using the savings from products they were using, but didn’t really need. It is now becoming commonplace for pet owners to have insurance, and as veterinarians we are extremely happy when costs are not a factor when offering the best diagnostic and treatment options that are available these days to help your pet recover from serious illness.

The Veterinary Shortage & What it Means for You & Your Pet - Southern Animal Health

Why you should consider using our clinic to look after your pets:

  • Open 7 days a week (to help you avoid emergency centres!)
  • We offer routine and advanced medical and surgical solutions, rarely requiring specialists, performing many procedures in clinic that other clinics would refer.
  • Our Less is Healthier approach allows for long term healthier pets, also allowing for hundreds of dollars of savings per year by avoiding unnecessary product up-sizing.
  • We only employ experienced veterinarians who all communicate with each other. For any complicated cases, our veterinarians come together as a team to discuss the best way forward for your pet. Hence you get up to 10 opinions yet you stay in communication with the vet of your choice.
  • At our clinic you are always welcome to ask for the vet of your choice when you are making an appointment.
  • At our clinic we encourage our clients to call with any enquiries and yes, you will get past the receptionist who will not just direct you to book in for a consultation, but will allow you the chance to talk with one of our veterinarians.
  • You won’t just be satisfied with our service, you will be appreciative! Our staff love their job, and their interaction with our wonderful clients and their pets, and nothing gives us more pleasure than to help you when your pets need help.

Our team

Your Health Care Team

Southern Animal Health is a group of veterinary clinics privately owned by two experienced veterinarians – Dr. Marcus Hayes and Dr Karin Davids. Between them, they have over 30 years of experience and the clinics are run according to their own standards and beliefs.

The associate veterinarians employed at SAH are all experienced and all of them have found a clinic they enjoy working in; resulting in a very low staff turnover rate compared to many other veterinary clinics. This gives you the confidence that when you visit our clinic, you will have health care consistency for the life of your pet.

Our veterinary staff have different areas of interest and expertise so we are able to work together to give the best care possible for your pet/s.

All staff in our practices are of a similar belief that “routine medicine” has become a little excessive in recent times. We are dedicated in explaining to our clients a better way in pet health. Our area of emphasis is in reducing the number of vaccinations and preventative medicines our pets receive; and to encourage pet owners to use more home cooking and less commercial foods.

With veterinary staff  that enjoy the freedom to work the way they want; clients will not find a more dedicated, caring or professional service. We love the work that we do and the satisfaction that goes along with educating our clients in what is “best pet health”. We encourage all our clients to use a more moderate approach with regards to the use of vaccinations and preventative medicines; and gain great pleasure in offering all options with regards to injury and illness; and not just the most expensive options. We all enjoy being able to bring these services to our clients in a very affordable way.
