Veterinary Surgery

At Southern Animal Health we offer routine and more advanced veterinary surgery. Standard de-sexings and day procedures such as minor lumps and abscess drainage are all done on site.

We also do more advanced surgeries such as cruciate ligament repair, luxating patellas, intestinal surgery, thoracic surgery and even advanced cancer surgery including wide margins and rotational skin flaps.

We also offer some of the more “pioneering” surgeries such as hip denervation. Hip dysplasia is a debilitating condition that often results in euthanasia when pain killers are no longer working. Hip denervation is an operation whereby we actually remove the nerve supply to the painful hip. Some of the results so far have been remarkable, with dogs having a new lease on life no longer experiencing the pain of severe hip arthritis.
Hence for any surgical procedure feel free to discuss the options with us. We find many clients are sent to specialists from various vet clinics for operations costing thousands of dollars which we could do for a fraction of the price.

Dingley Veterinary Clinic uses only the most modern anaesthetics and anaesthetic motoring equipment to ensure the safest possible conditions. Every surgical procedure has a nurse on hand to constantly monitor the state of the patient.

Geriatric Anaesthesia

In times gone past many vets would tell their clients that the patient is too old to have an anaesthesia. Many pets would then put up with debilitating conditions until such time as euthanasia was the only option. Happily those days are now long gone.

At Southern Animal Health we often operate on geriatric patients, including those with heart problems or kidney disease, enabling conditions such as cancer, intestinal problems, tooth root abscess and many more to be cured. Sometimes the anaesthetic risk may be higher than for young healthy patients, but these risks are still only minor.

Depending on your pets individual situation we will take the time to explain to you all the benefits and risks that are particular to your pets situation so that you can make an informed decision on the benefits of surgery.

With the introduction of both modern and safe anaesthesias as well as anaesthetic monitoring and skill, your pet no longer has to suffer serious conditions that in themselves are going to shorten their lives significantly compared to the minor risks associated with anaesthesia.
